Emergency talks between Philippine Airlines (PAL) and its cabin crew union collapsed on Tuesday, with the staff threatening to push on with a strike by the end of the month, the union said.

The airline urged had Labour Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz to stop the planned walkout by forcing both sides to settle through arbitration with the government.

Local air carriers are set to get extra aircraft pilots and flight attendants, thanks to the growing traveling industry, an executive of a local employment bank in Taiwan said Sunday.

In a business presentation to folks interested in working as flight attendants or pilots, Ho Chi-sheng of 1111 Job Bank said more than 440,000 international travelers arrived in Taiwan in August, representing a 20.34 % growth in contrast to the same time period last year.

In an effort to cater to the growing need for flight services, Ho said, China Airlines is looking to employ 300 new flight workers, while EVA Air wants 200, he said. Read the rest of this entry

On one 12-hour flight, Libby Rehm of Estes Park, Colo., had the bad luck to be in a seat with a broken armrest that set off the flight attendant call button if she leaned on it. Attendants “kept getting mad at me” instead of being sympathetic, she reports.
